Myrtle Beach is World’s Best Beach ?

Yahoo! Travel recently named Myrtle Beach as the World’s Best Beach. Yes, you heard me right. Myrtle Beach, in South Carolina, is the world’s best beach, according to Yahoo voters anyway. In a community vote, Myrtle Beach outpaced the likes of Miami, Hawaii, Cancun, and Sydney Australia.
Ironically, the “world’s best beach” vote was sponsored by South Carolina? Is that just a coincidence, or is it me? Even if it is just a coincidence, I may have lost a little respect for Yahoo Travel for having a world’s best beach vote sponsored by a state participating in the vote.
But according to travel pollsters, here is the list of the world’s best beaches.
1. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
2. Miami, Florida
3. Cancun, Mexico
4. Kaanapali, Hawaii
5. Honolulu, Hawaii
6. San Diego, California
7. Boracay Island, Philippines
8. Key West, Florida
9. Sydney, Australia
10. Santa Barbara, California
Obviously, Yahoo users don’t know much about the world’s best beaches, as seven of the ten beaches are in the United States. We have some good beaches here, but the top ten beaches on my travel wishlist do not reside in the US, but abroad instead. It looks like Yahooligans need to broaden their horizons a bit and read an internatonal beach vacation blogs more often.

I found Phuket,Patong Beach, and Patteya Beach Thailand to be really great beaches. Also, the Bahia Honda State Park on Bahia Honda Key is far better than Key West.It looked to me as too many of those beaches are your typical tourist traps. I grew up going to Myrtle every year and lived in Charleston for 2 years and Myrtle is a place I avoid like the plague. Miami isn't much different. I will advise that I am a diver and not a crowd person and neither of those 2 beaches really offer what I desire.
