Scuba diving, being a very popular beach activity, often raises a lot of questions among beach travelers because of the certification and PADI courses that are required to participate in this awesome activity. There are many frequently asked questions about how to get certified to scuba dive, and here is my attempt to educate travelers about Scuba diving.

What is PADI?

PADI is the professional association of diving instructors. It is the group that overseas pretty much everything dealing with the certification needed to become a scuba diver.

How do I get certified to Scuba dive?

Find a certified PADI resort or dive center on their website. Many beach resorts offer the certification and scuba excursion as on big package. The search function will give you an idea if your beach resort will offer a PADI course that you can take.

Is it hard to get certified?

No. It is performance based, but if you listen and are not deathly afraid of the water you should be fine. Resort scuba instructors usually know what their doing, so you should be okay.

How old do you have to be to Scuba dive?

You can become certified and scuba with a parent when you’re only ten years old. There are restrictions up to the age of fifteen.

How long will certification take me?

If you just want to scuba on excursions with guides, a morning class in scuba diving basics is all that is needed. If you want to become certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, you can be fully certified in as little as three days.

Can I scuba dive with glasses?

You should wear soft contact lenses when you dive. If you have hard contacts, they need to be gas permeable. You can also get prescription lenses in a scuba divingmask.
